A Celebration of Voice for the North East?

Posted 19 March, 2026

Much like the Durham Miners’ Gala stands as a proud celebration of heritage, unity, and community spirit, is it time for the North East to host an annual celebration dedicated purely to voice?

Our region is rich with choirs, folk traditions, brass bands, storytellers, and communities who come alive through song. An annual Festival of Voice could shine a spotlight on that talent — bringing people together, lifting spirits, and celebrating the sound of the North.

It feels like the perfect moment to ask:

Should the North East have its own annual celebration of voice?

A gathering where choirs, singers, and communities from across the region come together in harmony.

We’d love to see it happen — and I know the North East would sing its heart out.
